The Practical Activism Conference is a daylong, student led conference which features

a keynote speaker, ten workshops, various on and off campus organizations, performances,

and a variety of hands-on activism activities.

 

 

This year's conference will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2011 in the

College Nine & College Ten Multipurpose Room.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER ANNIE LOYA

Annie Loya is the Executive Director of Youth United for Community Action (YUCA). YUCA is a grassroots
community organization created, led, and run by young people of color, a majority of whom are from low-income communities. YUCA provides a safe space for young people to empower themselves and work on environmental and social justice issues to establish positive systemic change through grassroots community organizing. Annie has over 11 years of experience working with YUCA, first volunteering at age 13, joining the Higher Learning Core at 14, and transitioning to a staff member at 18. Annie has taken on a leadership role in her community and in the larger movement for environmental and social justice. She has led on a variety of environmental and community campaigns around issues affecting youth.

 

SPOKEN WORD POET RANDOM ABILADEZE

Random Abiladeze is a dynamic and acclaimed hip-hop artist, spoken word poet, and community educator from Sacramento, CA. A two-time champion of both Stanford University's "Battle of the Bay" poetry slam and Northern California's "Got Spit?" competition, Random's work has been honored by the Hip Hop Congress, a grassroots international cultural arts organization, and was named "Poet of the Month" by Youth Speaks. Random uses this platform to influence audiences from various backgrounds and age groups by promoting healthy life choices and advocating for social justice issues.
