PRACTICAL ACTIVISM: Keynote Speaker Bettina ApthekerBettina Aptheker has played an important role in major historical and political events ranging from her co-leadership of the Free Speech Movement in Berkeley, to the movements against the war in Vietnam and the trial of Angela Davis, to the building of the Women’s (now Feminist) Studies Department at UCSC. Aptheker has a national reputation for her talents as an instructor and began as the sole lecturer in the UCSC Feminist Studies Department 29 years ago. Since then, she has taught many thousands of students at UCSC. She is widely regarded as one of the most inspirational and influential professors on campus.
